Greta Thunberg realized at a young age the lapse in what several climate experts were saying and in the actions that were being taken in society. The difference was so drastic in her opinion that she decided to take matters into her own hands. Greta is a 15-year-old Stockholm native who lives at home with her parents and sister Beata. She’s a 9th grader in Stockholm who enjoys spending her spare time riding Icelandic horses, spending time with her families two dogs, Moses and Roxy. She love animals and has a passion for books and science. At a young age, she became interested in the environment and convinced her family to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

When a child is doing the job of someone in power, we need to re-think who is in power.
She got nominated for the Nobel Peace prize!
"I only speak when necessary. Now is one of those moments." Words of wisdom from Greta which many people can utilize. Speak when necessary. One does not have to jabber all the time.

English isnt her first language, yet she speaks freely this much in front of the global audience, grooving all those words to level of Elite english speakers, probably rivaling students from International schools. Truly incredible kid
These people give a standing ovation but by next week they will have forgotten and won’t take action, no one ever does

Greta is so inspiring. Definitely deserves the Nobel prize in my opinion.
But it's also really sad that it's the kids who need to lead the change.

it does not matter what age she is, the child is making valid points and is acting more responsibly than a lot of adults. People should listen to her and respond respectfully. The climate crisis can be understood by his child so, out of the mouths of babes, emerges the truth.

Pretty damn good english. And a much better message!! - And now. Let us act, like she tould us. Let us act, like we already know..
Not to over dramatize but Greta is probably the most important human voice on planet Earth at the moment. Only if you do not consider the end of human civilization as we know it a big deal can you ignore this young lady. She is a gift and we better listen up.

*We need to wake up*
small things we can do to save our planet:
1. use metal straws
2. switch to renewable energy
3. stop buying plastic bottles/bags. buy renewable ones that can be used many times. take reusable cups to coffee shops
4. go vegan, even if it's just a few specific days in the week, (this might sound weird but it actually does help)
5. save electricity. do not leave your phone charging overnight. remove plugs from sockets that wont be used overnight
6. save water (shorter showers)
7. take public transport/ walk/ go biking/ car shares
8. dont waste food. start a compost bin. (this can help reduce landfill + give u healthy soil!!)
9. try growing your own fruits & veggies or go to the farmer's market !
10. plant a tree
11. switch your google browser to ecosia, which is a type browser that plants trees for every search!
12. USE YOUR VOICE... this was another person's idea and i literally just copy pasted most of these. it doesn't really matter at this point who started this comment when our planet is dYiNg. if you can, please use your voice to influence others.

Now a whole generation around the world is experiencing how it is being fooled by the media and politics.
That changes everything and
the noticeable obvious climate-cooling too.
Yeah but I bet she used a car or some form of public transport to get there... Just saying

"It's about a society falling. On the way down it keeps telling itself: "So far so good...", "So far so good", "So far so good..". How you fall doesn't matter. It's how you land!"

I honestly think the world is procrastinating on solving this crisis
Very courageous and thoughtful speech I have ever heard till now at her age. She is telling the reality of the moment and coming future. I'm awakened now to work to take action from this moment.
If you care about the environment - watch the documentary Cowspiracy! 🌻
i have a problem with 8:35. There is currently no way of solving climate change in a way that people will actually do. Once you give people something like a car you can't simply say "dont use it" cause they are already to reliant on it and don't see climate change that directly affects them. The solution is to honestly wait until are current methods of reducing CO2 are cheaper (i.e. electric cars, renewable energy).

Teach that kid about the grand solar minimum and the effects it will have on climate. The science behind it will convince people things are about to get really bad
